Chocolate Covered Bananas

Banana’s are pretty good, but why not freeze them and add chocolate?ย  ๐Ÿ˜‰ I don’t make these very often because bananas are sweet enough, but when I do the kids go crazy for them! Honestly, they would probably be excited over frozen banana’s on a stick, but I come from a chocolate loving family, so sometimes I just can’t help myself! ๐Ÿ˜›

In general, chocolate covered bananas are pretty simple. Cut bananas in half, insert popsicle stick, freeze and dip in melted chocolate. Other toppings can be added (nuts or shreddedย  coconut) but we tend to keep them plain. These things are messy enough when given to 3 and 5 year olds without the added coatings.

Give this recipe a try! Get as creative as you’d like with any additional toppings too! Or, just keep it simple like I do ๐Ÿ˜‰

For this recipe you will need:

  • Double boiler or a Large glass bowl over a smaller pot with simmering water
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Bananas
  • Chocolate chips: I like theseย from vitacost.com, though if you like it a little sweeter, try these)
  • Peanut butter (optional): I either get mine at Costco or Vitacost.com)
  • Coconut oil (optional): I get this at Vitacost.com too. They offer different sizes but I always get the BIG one ๐Ÿ˜‰

The method:

  • Cut the bananas in half and insert the popsicle sticks on a bit of a slant. See the picture below for a good angle. This angle will give the most support and prevent the banana from breaking away from the stick as it’s eaten. In my experience, a broken banana makes for a very sad little boy ๐Ÿ™

  • Place the bananas on parchment paper and freeze for at least an hour

  • Melt chocolate chips, coconut oil and peanut butter in a double boiler or in a glass bowl over boiling water

  • Dip frozen bananas in melted chocolate mixture

  • Put chocolate dipped bananas back on the parchment paper lined tray and store in the freezer until you’re ready to serve them.

These measurements are estimated. If you have any leftover chocolate, just put it on a plate and refrigerate until solid for a nice little peanut butter chocolate bar with a bit of a banana flavor. ๐Ÿ˜›
