Peel and rinse potatoes.
Cut into 1 inch cubes.
Add potatoes to a pot and cover with filtered water.
Boil until fork tender and drain.
Add the butter to the potatoes and mash together, but only go around the pan a couple of times. They don’t have to be completely mashed up just yet.
I use the lid of the pot to drain the potatoes, this way I don't have to wash a colander.
No need for a mixing bowl, I like to use a hand masher and mash the potatoes directly in the pot. That's one less thing to clean up.
If you like your potatoes a little less lumpy, feel free to use an electric mixer instead.
